where are they now?

A co-worker commented on my dj bag a while back and we started talking. Come to find out, he is an old-school raver who, up until very recently, was still involved in the scene (djing and promoting). We talked about old parties we were both at and had a great time reminiscing. Although he knew the wherabouts of a number of djs, he had lost touch with quite a few. It got me thinking.

It is a fact that the 90's "Rave" scene in the Bay Area was a very special time. Has there been any work to archive this in written format? I would love to read a historical document on this. How the scene evolved... who were the influencers... the djs... the drugs... all of it. What did Jonah Sharp do for the scene? Why do I see ETI everywhere? Silent Records, and Reflective. England in the US. Chill rooms. Flyer art. All of it.

Does anyone know if this is happening? I have a handful of books that deal with the "rave" culture, but nothing definitive. Nothing that attempts to really document this time. What happened to all these people? Where are they now?

The rave culture has evolved into a multi-media cornucopia in the 21st century. There are a few of us who still cherish this vibe. Some of us who collect online scans of old skool fliers. Some of us who seek out digitize mixtapes. But most of it has left us. The '90s rave scene in California as a whole was quite epic. As a promoter, I try to keep that vibe with me always. A living example of what rave truly is. But it's tough to compete with the huge budgets of the mult-stage festivals and over-endowed clubs. I miss the "one-room, one-vibe with the chill room on the side" but anytime I attempt this format it comes of as being nostalgic.

If anybody here has scans of any pre-millennial rave fliers, please contact me!!!

I'm doing my best to archive them into one spot. You can check out what I have already in my profile on MySpace: www.myspace.com/twisteduo. Just go my photos then to Fliers. When the collection is big enough, I'll archive them for you on my server.
