Best Mix Tape

My vote is for one put out by Dutch in '92. Can't for the life of me remember the name of it. But it blew the roof off my shitty 'ole green truck for many years!

I don't know how many he made in '92 but if it's the one I had it's called Funky Void. It's one of my all time favorites but I haven't heard it in years cuz it melted on my friend's dashboard. I haven't been able to locate another copy since, do you still have it? Carlos, Dutch, Garth, Jeno and all those boys made a bunch of tapes around that time and sold them at Ameba (the clothing store, not the record store) and they all had different colored labels, Dutch's had a green one. All of those are classics, i would love to get my hands on any of those but they are rare.

Back in 91 R.A.W made a tape that blew me away...his scratching and mixing was impecable. it was called RAW the turntable Psycho.
another favorite of mine was Dj Dan breaks tape back in 92 that shit was definitely dope.

Dutch's Funky Void is absolutely one of favorites. I still have it on tape, though the quality is starting to fade a bit. Some others that I still consider total works of art:

Steve Loria - Spiral Trance the Lion's Dance
      Garth - House Nation
      Doc Martin - Earth Grooves
      Steve Loria - Deepdiscohouseinferno
      Moonpup - Planetarium

I think I have some tapes in a box. Dutches funky void, Carlos U.F.O, Jeno live and inside the mind and stuff, Dan Barnes and Nathan Two induce a trance(that's my tape)

I have a live mix from Carlos, circa '93..have no idea what party it's from..a friend copied for me...same with all my Dutch tapes...sigh...I also have a random tape from someone named Ian Christopher...There used to be this mail order place for mixtapes (I totally forget what it was called...the catalog was stapled xerox sheets, but they had freaking EVERYTHING....)...anyway, they sent me this Ian Christopher tape free with an order, and it totally kicks ass...I still have it and play it lots...

Dutch's excapades in trance is one of my top ten for sure...and burning chrome...those are the only two I have, I think...

My girlfriend hooked this up for my birthday last year:
              www.thinkgeek.com/computing/drives/7a8d/

              My only two complaints:

              1) the documentation (and website) is in Engrish

              2) the manual playback controls aren't flush with the face of the deck, so the door won't fully close. I can either drill new mounts 1/8" further back in the drive bay or grind 1/8" plastic off the inside of the door with a Dremel or something.

Other than that, it's pretty awesome. It took a little experimenting with the recording levels, but now I'm rockin an iPod full of old mixtapes.

Great collection of mixtapes!!!... It was Chris Lawrence - Odyessey that I had... Other notables:

Scott Henry: Sm)le Sessions (my first mixtape ever)
Paul Oakenfold: The Essential Mix (before Oaky sold his soul to commercialism)
Keoki: Disco Death Race 2000 (even though he sucks live, the mix was good)

tapes i listened to over and over and over included garth, jeno, greg sandler and an amazing mix by drc -- all of these held up to listening over the years. i dont remember the names because someone stole about 100 of my tapes that were in a bag in my car when i left it in an attended parking lot once and now they're long gone. my favorite garth and jeno tapes were recorded at comeunity -- when it was at 1015 folsom, i'd make sure i had my five bucks to get in and another ten bucks for whatever the mixtape of the month was.

    sucks that they're gone.

Okay, so this is controversial because it's not only old school, but it's considered outre now by many, as in "Whaddaya mean those are mix tapes???" But here it is anyway, kids: some of the series made by DJ Goa Cil back in the day--"Redefining the ancient Tribal Ritual: Shiva, Shakti, Mantra, Tantra, Yantra" "Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Theta, Omega" "Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Ether." They are true mix tapes that I still do trance dancing and meditation to now, years after Gil made them many years ago.

      Namaste,
      Will BHR

I have a ton of faves but trance-wise it has to be this random tape called "Minddance," circa 1994. I digitzed it and uploaded it at ravearchive.com. Highly recommended stuff.
